2017 Medlock Bridge Calcutta Tennis Tournament
For the 26th year in a row, Medlock Bridge will kick off the summer with the event that has become a Johns Creek tradition—the annual Memorial Day Calcutta Tennis Tournament. One of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year, Calcutta brings the entire community together. Proceeds from the 26th Annual Medlock Bridge Calcutta go to benefit Special Pops Tennis.
May 20, 2017 – Bid Night / Silent Auction – Bring your favorite appetizer and join us for one of the biggest parties of the year! During Bid Night, held in conjunction with a neighborhood Pub Night, teams are auctioned off to the highest bidders, with the proceeds split between the “owners” of the champions and runners-up of each division. Prizes will be given away throughout the event, but you must arrive by 7pm to get a ticket. Bid Night will also start a silent auction featuring numerous products and prizes, with proceeds from the auction going to Special Pops Tennis.
May 25-28, 2017 – Round Robin, Semis and Finals Play begins Thursday evening and continues through Friday evening and Saturday with the finals on Sunday. Courtesy of one of our sponsors, freshly grilled hamburgers and hot dogs will be served, along with a selection of ice cold beverages on Friday evening plus some breakfast treats Saturday morning. You may also pre-order a box lunch ($10 each) from sponsor Durango for Saturday. The silent auction will close on Sunday morning with proceeds from the auction going to Special Pops Tennis.
The Calcutta Tennis Tournament is a mixed doubles event. All players are ranked and grouped into flights based on their respective playing levels. Within each flight, the highest ranked man is paired with the lowest ranked woman and vice-versa, until everyone has a partner. The Tournament fee is $50 per player. Registration does not include the carnival on Sunday. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. In order to guarantee your spot as one of the 40 men and 40 women to play, you must register and pay by close of business on April 30th. Residents and non-residents who play on Medlock Bridge tennis teams have priority up until that day. After that, registration will be open to guests. Registrations close on May 6th.
